Artful Thursday Lecture: "A Transformative Partnership: Horses and Humans”

eventdetail
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

The partnership between humans and horses goes back much further than previously thought. Domestication of the horse radically transformed communication, trade and warfare, and helped further an exchange of art and ideas. An important sculpture depicting a horse found in Saudi Arabia last summer shows how artistic depictions may upend prevailing theories about the use of the horse.

Presented by Carolyn Willekes, University of Calgary, in partnership with Archaeological Institute of America, Houston Society.

This Artful Thursday lecture complements the exhibition Roads of Arabia: Archaeology and History of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
