American artist John Singer Sargent lived most of his life in Europe. During his travels around Europe, the Middle East and even America, he captured many scenes and subjects, themes and textures, with quick pencil sketches and bold strokes of watercolors. This workshop begins with a brief tour in the exhibition John Singer Sargent: The Watercolors to learn about Sargent's concepts of bravura, composition and color.
Participants, guided by artist Ellen Orseck, will head for the Cullen Sculpture Garden to experiment with drawing and painting with watercolors en plein air. In case of inclement weather, an alternate undercover location will be used.
Meet in the lobby of the Audrey Jones Beck Building. The workshop is limited to 20 participants and includes a tour of the exhibition, art-making instruction and materials, and light refreshments.
