Leading Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir's paintings of Parisians at leisure — dancing, boating, picnicking, at the opera and more — are characterized by their bright palette and elegant brushstrokes. This workshop begins with a brief tour in the exhibition The Age of Impressionism: Great French Paintings from the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute to view paintings by Renoir.
Once in the Glassell School of Art's painting studio, artist Beth Secor teaches participants some of Renoir's compositional and painting techniques. Each participant is strongly encouraged to bring photographs of family and friends engaged in leisure activities upon which to base their own joyful painting in the style of Renoir.
Meet in the lobby of MFAH's Audrey Jones Beck Building.
