Signs, Symbols and Sentinels features paintings by member artist Becky Soria that explores the physicality of animals, in particular as it relates to the bodies of a specific group of animals — the bison, the bull and the horse — the animals of the paleolithic past.
Soria's language is, appropriately, minimally representational. Often reduced to just simple outlines and body shapes. These acquire, however, their due substance thanks to the heavy impasto paint used to render them. Soria further explains that these works are the result of hard but joyful and emotional work over the last year and a half.
The artist will be on hand to visit with guests during the exhibition opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. and will talk about her work at 6:30 p.m.
The exhibit will be on view through Feb. 28.
