In science fiction, a "pocket universe" refers to a world that fits into a larger frame or device. The term can describe an actual miniature universe that could fit into a pocket, a nano-existence just beyond a microscope or a world nesting within another.

What does any of this have to do with oil paint on canvas? A painting, according to Lindsay Peyton, can become its own magical realm that invites viewers to step into another world and explore.

Paintings by Peyton and two of her favorite local artists — Ian Anderson and Justin Dunford — will be on display.
