Jimmy Peña's beautifully rendered drawings echo the humanity and spirituality of Renaissance masters. Peña's depiction of the contemporary common man in isolated environments and foreshortened positions emphasize the influence of Existentialism in his style. The charcoal drawings on found wood panels are insightful and witty, sometimes humorous and sometimes somber.
This exhibition will include the recently completed triptych No Safe Place to Die.
In addition, Matthew Scheiner curates an exhibit of African objects that respond to the spiritual aspect of the materials used in Jimmy Peña's work.
On view through Jan. 18, 2014.
