The Empty Spaces is a new series of works by Bret Harmeyer, presented as part of FrenetiCore's Artist Board. The series consists of a collection of three-dimensional illuminated boxes that simulate rooms.

Each box houses objects common to indoor domestic spaces sucgh as chairs, windows, picture frames and stairs. By presenting these objects in such a fashion that the functions associated with them are not or cannot be fulfilled, the works explore the relationship between purpose or meaning and the defining of identity.

Bret Harmeyer studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design before moving to Houston in 2000. He works in both two- and three-dimensional media, chiefly watercolor and assemblage. He collaborated with his wife Rachel in their 2010 dual exhibition, The Anatomy Lesson in Houston. He has participated in many group shows in the city and around the country.
