Catherine Couturier Gallery
World-renowned photographer Elliott Erwitt returns to Catherine Couturier Gallery for a career retrospective encompassing work from his 60-plus years as a distinguished documentary and commercial artist. Erwitt was heavily influenced by his meetings with Edward Steichen, Roy Stryker and Robert Capa in the late 1940s, the latter of whom invited Erwitt to join the prestigious Magnum Photo agency.
Erwitt's lens has captured a wide range of subject matter throughout his career, encompassing both the intimacy of everyday life as well as the lives of some of the 20th century's most notable icons, including Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy, Che Guavara and Richard Nixon.
In addition to being published in dozens of books, Erwitt has shown extensively in museums and galleries around the globe including New York's Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the Art Institute of Chicago and Paris' Museum of Modern Art.
On view through May 25.
