Alex Barber
Matthew Bede Murphy lives in Brooklyn, NY. When he is not creating art, he serves as curator/program director for LAND Studio Gallery in Brooklyn, a nonprofit program designed to nurture the talents of adult artists with neurological diversities. For more than a decade, Murphy has maintained a drawing journal on absorbent paper that allows for bleeding to the next page. Each drawing informs the next, building a body of work that is at once spontaneous yet part of a visual family.
The title of each work is the date. Murphy refers to the drawings as his therapy. Some days may have a production of many works, others none at all, yet because of the nature of the bleed, he is able to pick up where he left off even if he leaves the work for many days.
On view through May 1.
