Andrew Wyeth, one of the most prominent artists of the 20th century, was the first visual artist to appear on the cover of Time magazine and the first living American-born artist to be given an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The pictures on display at Meredith Long & Company date from the early part of Wyeth's career in 1940 to some of his later works, revealing subjects and places that captivated him over the years.
These include his signature takes on the landscapes and inhabitants near his homes in Maine and Chadds Ford, Pa. Of particular note among these are several examples of Wyeth's "Helga pictures," part of the extraordinary body of work that created a stir in the art world when its existence was revealed in 1986.
On view through Jan. 19.
