States of Matter is a dual exhibition that features the sculpture of Alex Larsen and Dylan Conner, both graduates of the Maryland Institute College of Art. They work side by side in studios at El Rincon Social and they both create sculpture. While there may be some transference or discussion of ideas, both artists produce work that is unique and invigorating, ennobling sometimes humble materials.

Larsen's work is produced as a reaction to the developing paradigm of secondary physical observation. Using a variety of materials both traditional and modern the artist translates the process of creation so that the result combines both the intended form and the forces required to create it.

The ocean has always informed Conner's life and artwork. Surfing and swimming depend on a person's understanding that one cannot change the forces of water, which have to be felt before they are understood. Similar notions are explored in Conner's work.
