Art League Houston opening reception: Three Houses by Havel Ruck Projects

eventdetail

Art League Houston's 2014 Texas Artists of the Year exhibition, Three Houses by Havel Ruck Projects,  utilizes more than 60 large architectural fragments collected from three condemned houses in the Houston metro area. A large form or sculptural action will be assembled in the center of the gallery by stacking the extracted interior walls and building fragments. Once constructed, the form will be shaped by cutting and manipulating the surface. The repurposed materials come embedded with decades of inherent characteristics and values typically thrown aside by time, culture and "progress."

Sight, smell, sense and presence will encompass the viewer as they are engulfed by the sculpture. Based loosely on preliminary sketches and models, the work will be organic in nature and develop on-site where the creative and deconstructive process will direct the final results.

An exhibition catalog will be available at the opening reception, featuring an introduction by Jim Edwards.

On view through Nov. 1.
