"Forbidden Pleasures" features internationally acclaimed British countertenor Ryland Angel — his Ars Lyrica debut — alongside beloved Houston soprano Melissa Givens performing the flamboyant repertory of the Italian castrati. The program includes Alessandro Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater plus chamber cantatas and solo sonatas by both father and son, Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti.
Ensemble members include violinists Adam Lamotte and Sean Wang, cellist Barrett Sills, theorbist Richard Savino and harpsichordist (and Ars Lyrica artistic director) Matthew Dirst.
