Collaborative ventures happen all the time. But wood turning combined with painting is atypical. That is until now. Painter LeeAnn Gorman and wood turning sculptor Paula Haymond had never met before they both joined Archway Gallery, but their similarities in upbringing, creative training and Midwestern backgrounds drew them together to not only forge a friendship, but also to a kindred creative spirit that has now morphed into a collaborative exhibition titled When Wood Met Design.
In this case, the right and left hands knew exactly what they were doing as they approached this creative venture, bringing wood and paint to life layering textures, images and forms found in each other's individual works.
On view through Oct. 30.
