Jacques Pépin, Julia Child and company have no idea the debt they owe Richard the Lionheart. Imagine the shock of the Crusaders when they discovered the cuisine, comforts and luxuries of the Middle East: Sanitation, baths with rosewater and foods enhanced with spices. Of course, they all wanted some of this goodness for themselves — European kitchens, bedrooms and apothecaries were never the same again.

Presented by Michael Fuller, St. Louis Community College.
