Apollo Chamber Players' With Open Arms season concludes with the live world premiere of In the Shadow of the Mountain by Jennifer Higdon, the world’s most performed female living composer. This final work of Apollo’s 20×2020 commissioning project is an intensely emotive, exquisitely crafted string quartet drawing inspiration from the composer’s childhood in Appalachia, connecting thematically to her Grammy- nominated Cold Mountain opera.

Trailblazing pianist Lara Downes joins Apollo for the Southwest premiere of Florence Price’s recently discovered Piano Quintet in A Major.

The May 1 performance will take place at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, while the May 7 performance will take place at the UHCL Bayou Theater.
