Making their ZIlkha Hall debut, Aperio, Music of the Americas presents a concert of environmentally inspired music coupled with recitation, video and lighting entertainment. The program includes music that connects melody with nature and human spirituality, with premieres by local composers Mark Dancigers and Thomas Osborne, in addition to music by Steve Reich, John Kennedy, and Frederic Rzewski. Most notably, George Crumb's Vox Balenae (Voice of the Whale) for three masked players: electric flute, electric cello, and amplified piano closes the program with Houston Symphony flutist Judy Dines and pianist Jason Hardink.
