Anya Tish Gallery presents "Duplicity," a two-person collaborative exhibition of Shannon Cannings' hyper-realistic paintings and inflated steel sculptures by William Cannings.
Shannon Cannings’ eye-popping depiction of toy guns explores the toxic disposition of American consumerism, drawing attention to the dichotomy of gun violence and the seemingly harmless children’s toy.
Exuding a nostalgic and whimsical mood, William Cannings’ process-oriented sculptures of children’s pool toys embrace the pastime memories of childhood, while his site-specific "Clouds" installation, weightless and ethereal, was inspired by the artist’s childhood fascination with the iconic "Silver Clouds" by Billy Klüver and Andy Warhol.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display until May 13.
