Aker Imaging will present the work of Lou Vest. The beauty and power of the sea has always fascinated man. Ever changing in its moods, light and shadows the sea has drawn man to it. Vest’s work is about the interplay of light and water that has excited him from his first days as a sailor almost 50 years ago. Long hours on watch with water on every horizon gave him a great appreciation for the beauty of sunlight and moonlight on the sea. It was only natural that with a camera in his hands he wanted to capture some of that magic.
Vest’s current series began on a clear calm night with a full moon while crossing Galveston Bay. He began experimenting with ways to catch the slow roll of waves and the graceful dance of reflected moonlight. He wanted the photos to catch the crisp reflections but also reveal the movement of light and water. This first work he did that night gave him a sense of something true and natural that he could work with in other situations. Going beyond just the water patterns he has included images of harbor lights and passing vessels all in the spirit of celebrating light and water and a life on ships.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through January 23, 2016.
