The 8th Annual Small Steps Nurture & Nourish Luncheon will feature New York Times bestselling author Wes Moore as the keynote speaker. Co-chairs for the luncheon are Kristen Berger, Courtney Paddock, Amy Reeves, and Marcia Smart.
Moore is a decorated Army combat veteran, a Rhodes Scholar, and the CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation, one of the nation’s largest foundations with a sole focus on alleviating poverty. He is also the founder of BridgeEDU, an organization that provides support to students as they navigate to higher education. His first book, The Other Wes Moore, tells the story of how educational opportunities, community support and other factors helped Wes transcend the fate of a man with the same name who lived just blocks away and took a tragically different path to prison. The Other Wes Moore is currently being made into a major motion picture from Executive Producer Oprah Winfrey.
All proceeds from the Nurture & Nourish Luncheon support Small Steps Nurturing Center, a non-profit organization that operates two preschools for economically at-risk students living in the First, Second, and Fifth Wards of Houston. Small Steps provides a high-quality education, social and emotional support, a nurturing Christian environment, transportation, and nutritious meals to children ages 2-6. Small Steps invests in the lives of these precious children by meeting their needs, intervening early, and setting them on a trajectory filled with greater opportunities.
Registration starts at 11 am, with program to start at 11:30 am. Questions should be directed to Julie Myers at jmyers@ssnc.org or 713-236-0330.
