The 5th Annual Houston Improv Festival reflects the diverse landscape of improv. Improvisers from Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver, and Austin will join some of Houston’s best for eight fun-filled shows.

In its fifth year, HIF celebrates the independent do-it-yourself spirit of improv. Guests will experience long-form and short-form improv in a variety of formats.Witness performers creating an improvised musical, weaving gothic tales, exploring space and its inhabitants in a sci-fi adventure, producing an on-the-spot documentary, and revealing history as unveiled through the eyes of an inebriated narrator. The festival also welcomes back former University of Houston troupe Glaundor, the 2013 National Champions of the College Improv Tournament. As one of Chicago’s most respected indie improv troupes, HIF headliner SAND is not afraid to explore the darker side of comedy.

Chicago’s Newcity Magazine selected Sand the Best Improv Troupe of 2015, applauding their ability to “tap into a darkness that would lead lesser performers to alienate an audience quickly. And yet they pull it off with a strange sense of empathy that allows for full-on laughter at the most unexpected of topics.”

A family-friendly show will take place on Saturday, April 30 at 7 pm. Performers in this show will keep the content rated PG, allowing audiences ages 12 and up to enjoy live improvised comedy. There will also be late-night shows at 11 pm on Friday and Saturday. The content of these shows is intentionally more tailored to a late-night crowd.

Proceeds from Thursday's shows will go to the Mayor's Greater Houston Storm Relief Fund.
