The 42nd annual Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park is an award-winning outdoor art gallery that has gained national recognition from AmericanStyle Magazine and the International Festival & Events Association. The festival celebrates the vitality and diversity of Houston and enriches the city's arts reputation.
The juried fine art event showcases 300 top-galleried artists representing 17 kinds of artistic media. Adding to the festive art walk are wine cafes, an interactive creative zone for children, restaurants and a performing arts stage with on-going multicultural musical and dance entertainment.
The featured artist duo this year is Signe and Genna Grushovenko, partners in both life and art who apply rich layers of pattern and tone to gessoed masonite or linen supports. Signe then selects an inspiration image from their extensive collection of vintage found photos, draws with oil pastel atop the abstract underlayer using the photo for reference, and completes the image with blocky panes of oil color.
There's no public parking at Memorial Park. Plan to Park & Ride free on the BCAF Shuttle. The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
