The route for the Houston Art Car Parade will relocate to downtown Houston for 2016. The new parade route will run along Smith Street from Pease to Walker Streets, looping around Hermann Square and City Hall, taking a left onto Bagby, and then a right onto Lamar, rolling past Sam Houston Park and ending at the Pierce Elevated.
The public will not be allowed onto Allen Parkway. This temporary change is due to current construction along Allen Parkway. The parade plans to return to the banks of Buffalo Bayou in 2017.
Festivities for the public during the Houston Art Car Parade, including beverage stations, food trucks, and gift shops, will be scattered along Smith Street including at the Starting Line Party (Smith and Pease), at Parade Central in front of the Allen Center complex (Smith and Polk) and at Smith and Lamar. The VIPit Experience, a ticketed event that includes reserved seating, entertainment, and complimentary food & beverage, will take place in and around Hermann Square at City Hall.
