For more than two decades, supporters of The Rose, a nonprofit breast health organization, have gathered each summer to celebrate providing care for thousands of their neighbors, fundraiser and eat shrimp. At the 25th Annual Shrimp Boil, the traditions are only getting bigger and better, with music by the popular Slags, silent and live auctions, a kids' creative zone that features activities from the Bayou City Art Festival with help from clowns from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, cakes and pies to be purchased whole or by the piece, and piles of shrimp with all the fixins'.

This year's event pays tribute to Dr. Dixie Melillo, one of the co-founders of The Rose who, along with now CEO Dorothy Gibbons, established the nonprofit back in 1986 to provide breast screenings and diagnostic services for both the insured and uninsured so that all women would have access to care.
