The Italian Cultural & Community Center will host a screening of the critically acclaimed film Leopardi (il giovane favoloso), an Italian drama film directed by Mario Martone, starring Elio Germano, Michele Riondino. and Massimo Popolizio.
The film tells the story of the short life of the great 19th century Italian poet and philosopher Giacomo Leopardi. Leopardi’s life was full of difficulties as he was afflicted by semi-blindness, bone deformation and numerous unrequited loves. Despite these hurdles, he was courageous, rebellious, ironic and impervious to hypocrisy. Starting from his young years as his father’s star pupil being groomed for priesthood to his escape to Florence and onto Naples, this is an engrossing historical drama about the talent and the struggle of this inspirational man in turbulent times.
