Tour for Life is a cooperative national adoption initiative aimed at reinforcing the importance of adopting pets from shelters and making the public aware that shelter dogs and cats are wonderful lifetime companions. In Houston Citizens for Animal Protection leads this international effort, spearheaded by the North Shore Animal League.

During the Pet Adopt-A-Thon, CAP will waive the adoption fee by 50 percent for any pet over two years old, all large breed dogs and animals who have been at the shelter for more than two months. There will also be low-cost microchipping, a sidewalk sale and a bake sale to benefit the animal charities.
