National Senior Games

After a 1,100-mile torch relay across Texas, the flame that opens the 2011 National Senior Games finally arrives at Discovery Green. Thousands of athletes from around the country will participate in the games at venues throughout the greater Houston area. It is the world's largest multi-sport event for adults ages 50 and over.

Senior athletes Kay Glynn and 100-year-old Harry Pepper will use the torch to light the Senior Games Cauldron. (Lighting of the cauldron will take place at sunset, around 8:30 p.m.) The 27.5-foot cauldron will burn for 14 days.

The celebratory festivities also includes Ezra Charles and disco diva Gloria Gaynor with her iconic '70s anthem, "I Will Survive."
