16th Annual Virginia and Ira Jackson Lecture: "Toulouse-Lautrec's Paris"

eventdetail
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

Paris in the 1890s was a city bursting with entertainment, from the circus to the cabaret to the dance hall. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was among the finest chroniclers of this period, recording and interpreting his world through his magnificent prints, drawings, posters, and paintings. This illustrated presentation explores how the artist navigated the city, focusing on his favorite celebrities, dance halls and the nightlife that made the city famous the world over.

Presented by Mary Weaver Chapin, curator of graphic arts, Portland Art Museum, Oregon; author of Posters of Paris: Toulouse-Lautrec and His Contemporaries.
