In this German film, two Ukranian Jewish children and the daughter of a wealthy German brewer living in the Ukraine in 1941 form a deep friendship initially based on their musical talents and mutual love of music. As they grow closer, their friendship deepens as they explore the world around them.
But that world and their friendship is shattered when the Germans invade the Soviet Union, their worlds are turned upside down, and the children are no longer permitted to be "siblings for life." The film is based on true events uncovered by movie producer Artur Braner, now in his 90s and a Holocaust survivor.
