The mission of Target Hunger is to alleviate hunger and its root causes in the Houston neighborhoods it serves. After beginning in Fifth Ward, one of Houston’s oldest and most historic Black neighborhoods, Target Hunger has grown to serve the surrounding northeast Houston neighborhoods, including Denver Harbor, Kashmere Gardens, Magnolia Park, North Forest, and Settegast.
Its vision is of a Houston where no one goes hungry and everyone can provide food for themselves and their families.
You can help by donating food, money, or time. Additionally, Target Hunger offers team-building activities for corporate or civic groups, as well as family volunteer programs.
Target Hunger's annual gala is the agency’s single largest fundraising event of the year and takes place in early spring. The program includes an update of Target Hunger’s activities and achievements, recognition of distinguished honorees, live and silent auctions, fine dining, and dancing.
In 2021, the event will be reimagined into a drive-in movie experience called Drive-In to Drive Out Hunger.
