The nonprofit horse sanctuary A Place for Peanut was founded in January 2016. Most of the rescues are miniature horses, although they rescue other breeds as well. Many of the horses at A Place for Peanut were rescued from kill pens and are rehabilitated and re-homed with good families. The organization also strives to educate the public about the horrors of kill pens.
