Organized in 1998, the Transgender Foundation of America (TFA) is a Houston-based grassroots nonprofit with the mission of improving the quality of life for transgender people. TFA provides homeless services and removes barriers to mental health support through free group therapy, counseling, and vetted referrals, and by engaging in advocacy, education, and outreach. What makes TFA unique is that it is an agency run by the transgender community itself. Every program, meeting, educational effort, and service is created by the transgender community for members of the transgender community.

TFA Houston has a variety of volunteer teams, including a Trans Relief Fund Volunteer Support team (that was established during Hurricane Harvey) and a Unity Banquet Volunteer team. For more information and to join any or all of TFA Houston's volunteer teams, head here.

The Houston Transgender Unity Banquet is presented by the Houston Transgender Unity Committee (HTUC) and has become one of most anticipated  transgender community events held in Houston each year. The banquet raises money for scholarships, Houston Pride activities, small grants, and more, and is attended by leading local, state, and national equality advocates, business leaders, and, importantly, younger members of the transgender community.
