Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue is a breed-specific group dedicated to the rescue of German Shepherd dogs, and does not knowingly accept mixed-breed dogs into the program. The dogs are obtained from public shelters where they are scheduled to be euthanized, or they are given to the group directly by their owners. All dogs receive necessary healthcare, including spaying neutering, and are micro-chipped before being placed in a foster home until they are adopted.
The group also provides information and education to the community with emphasis on the importance of spaying/neutering and heartworm prevention, and it works with transporters, animal shelters, and other rescue organizations to develop a better life for all German Shepherds. This year marks its 10th anniversary making a difference for discarded, ill, or surrendered dogs deserving a life of health, love, and companionship.
Adopt or foster a dog. Volunteers are also needed in many categories — visit the website for more details. Health fees for one dog average $600, so donations are greatly appreciated.
The annual event Jingle Bell Bark & Brew is the first Saturday in December. This fundraiser has photos with Santa, a terrific silent auction, and a bake sale.
