Sea Star Base Galveston provides marine, maritime, and aquatics-based education programs that instill lifetime leadership and teamwork skills while fostering independence of mind, body, and spirit. SSBG also sponsors classes in safe boat handling, first sail experiences, and keelboat classes.

Sea Star Base Galveston sponsors several programs and events, including summer day and overnight camps; youth, community and adaptive sailing programs; on-the-water field trips; and fishing, kayaking, and swimming programs. Annual signature events include the Combat Wounded Warrior's Challenge, the Doolin Cup for adaptive sailors, the Koch Cup for youth sailors, and the Sea Scout Academy for Sea Scouts (a division of the Boys and Girl Scouts).
