Character is the aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of a person; their moral or ethical quality. Character Camp strives to instill good character traits in the young minds of Houston and beyond. They're on a mission to "build better kids."
Those interested can volunteer with Character Camp during an event as an introduction to what the camp is about. They're always looking for volunteers for the summer retreat, as it has grown every year.
Character Camp has several events, including:
- Healthy Steps Walkathon & Bootcamp: Celebrates wellness and positive lifestyle change while encouraging our youth and community to take an active role in healthier habits. The event features a boot camp session hosted by the KO King of Houston, Ricky Jackson, former Texas Heavyweight Champion from 1994-2001 and 2018 Houston Awards Program Trainer of the Year.
- Hats Off! for Character Camp Charity Show & Auction: Part runway show of custom and concept hats, part auction. Guests are welcomed on the red carpet for their own photo opportunity before the opening of the show. The fashion and vanity hats are auctioned to audience members at the end of a live runway. To the delight of attendees, designers are only limited by their sense of style, imagination, and sense of humor. Guests are encouraged to wear their own fashion-forward headgear, too.
- Leadership Retreat: A week-long summer retreat for the campers that includes aviation, music, robotics, physical fitness, computer science, tutoring, and character training.
