Amigos de las Américas inspires and builds young leaders through collaborative community development and immersion in cross-cultural experiences. It believes in a world where each young person becomes a lifelong catalyst for social change.

Founded in 1965, Amigos is the safest, most authentic volunteer and immersion program in Latin America for young people ages 13 to 22. Volunteers get the opportunity to explore a new country, learn Spanish, bond with their host family, and make a positive impact by working on a community service project side by side with local peers and community partners.  Their relationships with local and international organizations — built over 50 years — enable authentic engagements in communities across the region.

To help support the next generation of world changers, you can make a gift directly to Amigos here.

For those in Houston wanting to get more involved, the Amigos Houston chapter is part of a 25 Chapter Network that recruits, trains, and supports Amigos volunteers and families in their local community. Volunteers from around Houston train together as a group before leaving for their summer experience in Latin America. The board supports volunteers with packing, pre-departure immunizations, fundraising, and overall preparation.

Youth interested in applying to the Amigos Houston Chapter should head here.
