Oh How We Love a Sale!
You won't believe the great finds at Houston Design Center sample sale, prices slashed
Even though my home is fully furnished and I don't often think of interiors shopping, I love the Houston Design Center's annual Designer Sample Sale. So much to see, so many bargains.
Wednesday morning, I took a quick tour through the 11 showrooms that are participating in the sale that runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. By lunchtime, I was dreaming of redecorating.
I zeroed in on particular sofa, originally priced at $5,625 and marked down to $3,375 including the four decorative pillows. The find was in Design House Inc. where items are marked down 20 percent retail and 40 percent to the trade with even greater markdowns on selected pieces. But the real bargains will come this weekend, when an empty showroom space located in another leg of the center is filled with furnishings and accessories from the Design House warehouse.
At Scalamandré, the chandelier originally priced at $7,000 and now down to $1,050 appeared to be one of the best buys of the upcoming sale-athon while Johnson Simon Resources will be selling lounge chairs and task seating — discontinued or salesman samples — at 50 percent and more below retail. You'll find chairs there priced as low as $20 and $50.
The math is simple at Scene One Interiors where everything is marked down by 50 percent. That includes candles, picture frames, lamps, sofas, beds, chests. As the saying goes, everything must go as the showroom prepares for a complete facelift.
On Friday at 11 am, HGTV design star Jamie House will make a presentation on how to work with a design professional. Ramping up the party atmosphere of the day, gourmet food trucks will lift their awnings at 11:30 am and continue food service until 2 pm.
Additional showrooms slashing prices are Bunch & Shoemaker, Charles Ray & Associates, Charlotte Nail Antiques, Lighting Treasures, Pride of Persia Rug Co., Postmodern Traditions and Terri Pugh Studio.
