World of luxury: Exclusive look inside the Louis Vuitton home and workshops
Jul 9, 2013 | 10:12 am
Even though Louis Vuitton is owned by the French conglomerate LVMH, there's still a family feeling at the ancestral home and workshops where trunks and handbags are made in a village outside of Paris. Come along for a special tour.
The signature Louis Vuitton “tumbler lock," invented by Georges Vuitton in 1890, is one of the final pieces added to a trunk. Since the founding of the company, every trunk has been given a unique registered lock number. It holds the secret of when the trunk was made, by whom, and where it was purchased. An owner can have one key for all of his or her trunks and it can be passed down from generation to generation.
