Honored leader: Mayor Annise Parker gets a swanky Houston party for her national award

The 411: Arts community leaders and Parker fans gathered to salute the mayor for her receiving the 2015 national award for "Local Arts Leadership" (cities of 100,000 and larger), originally presented in January in Washington D.C. by Americans for the Arts.
Americans for the Arts board member Leslie Blanton re-presented the award which the mayor earned for being an avid supporter of the arts through her tenure as City Council member, controller and Mayor of Houston. She was recognized for, among other things, her aid in providing funding for civic art and arts projects, programs and organizations; nominating cultural districts and naming the city’s first poet laureate.
