The house that famously appeared in the Oscar-winning filmTerms of Endearment is up for sale. For this week's CultureMap Moment, Lily Jang of KHOU Ch. 11, CultureMap editor-in-chief Clifford Pugh and current homeowner Lewis Brown to shed some light on this famous and historic home.
The 6,500 square foot mansion, dubbed "The Waldo Mansion," was first constructed in 1885 by Confederate veteran J.P. Waldo and wife Mary Virginia Gentry at the corner of Rusk and Caroline. Strangely enough, the house is no longer located at that corner since Waldo's son Wilmer moved the home to its current location at 201 Westmoreland in 1905.
The three bedroom, three and a half bathroom mansion was prominently featured in the 1983 film, particularly in scenes between Shirley MacLaine and Jack Nicholson. Although the home is not in the exact condition as when the movie was made, many notable features remain, including the bed in which MacLaine and Nicholson's characters slept.
The home is being sold by John Daugherty Realtors. Asking price? $3.5 million.
