Advocating for lynch mob justice: Sarah Palin wants to hang Penn State coachJerry Sandusky
Oh, Sarah Palin. You certainly don't sugarcoat your thoughts.
The former governor of Alaska and political pundit shared her opinion about alleged child rapist Jerry Sandusky with Greta Van Susteren, host of On The Record. According to the LA Times, Palin said,
As for the perp and perps that allowed the sinfulness to go on as they had allowed in the past, you know, I say about this assistant coach Sandusky: Hang him from the highest tree. I’ll bring the rope."
When Van Susteren reminded Palin about the need to be found guilty in a court of law before being punished, Palin toned it down to say she would "bring the rope if he is guilty of what has been alleged.
"If he abused these young children and ruined their lives, unless they get a lot of help, Greta, in order to deal with the victimization that they are now suffering from, he needs to be punished to the fullest extent of the law if he is truly guilty."
Since Palin is known to mix up her facts, it may be worth noting that the State of Alaska abolished the death penalty in 1957.
Further, deathy by hanging as a capital punishment is only allowed in New Hampshire and Washington, and — as far as we know — the alleged crimes took place in neither state. Even further, the Supreme Court has declared that the death penalty is not suitable punishment for child rape.
If Sandusky is found guilty of the eight heinous incidents of child abuse attributed to him in the grand jury report, he will be prosecuted.
But rest assured that the sentence will not be delivered by Palin's lynch mob.
