In "Futurescapes," a solo exhibition of new paintings by Terry Suprean, the artist presents a large and diverse body of work utilizing the experimental artist-manufactured paints he has developed and worked with over the last decade to mimic and mirror geological processes, engage with the language of abstraction in the digital age, and probe the meaning of landscape painting in the Anthropocene.
Inspired by images broadcasted from the Mars Rover and James Webb Telescope, the life cycle of glaciers, geological forces and mineralogy, satellite and biological imagining, and the history of color field painting & process art, the paintings in the exhibition suggest portals through which to imagine and come to terms with the event horizon our environment and technologies stand on. Futurescapes proposes a fertile field for fantasizing about our future interactions with terrestrial, extraterrestrial, social, and digital landscapes—a “body without organs” vulnerable to decolonization and evolution—an open grid for interfacing with flux potentialities.
"Futurescapes" is accompanied by a reunion of collaborators in a group exhibition featuring: David Janesko, Danny Kerschen, Tex Kerschen, Suzy Poling, Jon Read, William Sarradet, DOMOKOS / STARCHILDE 7, & Lisa B. Woods.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on view until November 30.
