AURA Contempoary Ensemble presents Peculiar, an evening of music with bizarre inspirations. Featured works are inspired by leaflets that were dropped on Afghanistan after 9/11 (Target, Keeril Makan), a 1969 samurai film (Samurai Loops, Chris Perren), an experiment used to test the validity of psychiatric diagnosis (Series Imposture, David Bird) and a quick trip to Boston for a one night stand (To Boston for Sex, Vincent Calianno). AURA will also present the U.S. premiere of Belgian composer Piet Swerts' Retro, which is written for the unconventional ensemble of saxophone, violin, and piano.
