Big-name chef vows to produce the best barbecue in Texas in new restaurant within a restaurant
Fresh off a win in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Best Bites competition for the top “Trailblazing Appetizer/Entree," Ronnie Killen is ready to launch his long-anticipated, much-delayed Killen’s BBB on March 30 — within his Killen’s Steakhouse. On weekends, beginning at 11 a.m. until he's sold out, Killen will serve his already legendary barbecue including BBQ short ribs (the best bites winner), brisket, pork ribs and sausage. Sides will include potato salad and pulled pork beans.
The whole experience will be "very Central Texas-style," Killen says. The response from advance tastings of Killen's product have been met with solid enthusiasm, if not outright devotion.
“I have heard I do steaks pretty good. There is only one thing I do better than steak and that’s BBQ."
“We were going to move the steakhouse and turn the existing space into our BBQ joint but there are issues with that space — it didn’t work out,” Killen says. So, Killen’s Steakhouse will remain where it is at 2804 S. Main in Pearland — and Killen’s BBB will soon establish its roots at 3613 E. Broadway within the next two months.
“I have heard I do steaks pretty good," Killen says. "There is only one thing I do better than steak and that’s BBQ. I plan on bringing the best BBQ in Texas back to Houston."
The chef (who has cooked at the James Beard House) admits that’s a tall order, but Killen is confident. As somebody who has tasted the goods, all I can say is I’ll be there at 11 a.m. on the 30th. For sure.
