Local Foods shutters in Tanglewood to reopen as new, larger Post Oak patio spot
A popular sandwich shop is shuttering its Tanglewood location, but it won’t be gone for good. Local Foods will close its location at 5740 San Felipe St. on Saturday, December 23.
As CultureMap has previously reported, Local Foods will move the Tanglewood location to the Post Oak Plaza shopping center. Expected to open early next year, it will join a number of other restaurants, including Kenny & Ziggy’s, il Bracco, Balboa Surf Club, and Nando’s Peri Peri.
Moving to a new location a mile east on San Felipe will bring a number of improvements, including an expanded kitchen that will serve more a larger menu and a covered patio. The new location will also have an expanded wine selection for both dine-in and to-go.
“The patio experience is such a big part of Local Foods,” owner Benjy Levit said in October. “The new location will provide a fabulous, more spacious, and shaded environment.”
When it opens, diners will find Local Foods’ familiar menu that includes fan favorites such as the Crunchy Chicken Sandwich, Harvest Salad, and Green Chili Chicken Posole. In addition to sandwiches, it will offer entrees that include a local catch of the day, a bistro steak, roasted half chicken, veggie lasagna, and “a damn good burger,” according to a release. Weekend brunch service will feature mimosas, traditional breakfast fast, and “seafood-driven egg dishes.”
Local Foods is one of a few new restaurants coming to Post Oak Plaza in 2024. Los Angeles-based ramen shop Rakkan Ramen and Austin-based taqueria Tacodeli will also open at the development next year.
