Does Houston have the country's best new restaurant? Who made the Bon Appetitlist of nominees
According to Bon Appetit's Andrew Knowlton, Texas has more great new restaurants this year than any other state.
Knowlton released his list of 50 nominees for Best New Restaurant, and the Lone Star State has no less than seven contenders, more than either foodie-centric California (six) or so-special-it-needs-its-own-James-Beard-region New York (four).
Houston restaurants Oxheart, Underbelly and Uchi all made the preliminary list, which will be honed to 10 on Aug. 14.
What makes the Houston trio stand out? Knowlton says he loves how the chefs deliver your food at "spectacular sliver of a restaurant" Oxheart, sitting at the counter for the 10-course omakase at Uchi, and the in-house butchering at Underbelly, as well as Chris Shepherd's Korean braised goat and dumplings.
Do you think all three will make the Top 10? Which Houston restaurants would be on your list?
