Get curried away: Straits to host Houston's first-ever Curry Crawl
Curry: You're either obsessed with it or you don't even want to live on the same block as someone who is. Strong flavors inspire strong feelings. At the Curry Crawl on June 24, they should also inspire strong competition.
If you are one of the first group, don't miss Houston's first chef competition based around the South Asian spice taking place at Straits in CityCentre. Ten of Houston's best chefs will be currying favor with judges Greg Morago, Katharine Shilcutt and Sarah Rufca (that's me!) as well as the crowd, who will award their own People's Choice winner.
Among the chefs competing are Straits home chef John Sikhatanna, Philip Speer of Uchi, Samba Grille's David Guerrero, Mary Cuclis of Pondicheri, Kiran Verma of Kiran’s, Queen Vic's Shiva Patel, German Mosquera of Roots Bistro, Blu's Jett Hurapan and Jimmy Kieu of RA Sushi.
Curry Crawl will run from 4 to 7 p.m. on June 24. Tickets are $55 and benefit PULSE, the first-ever young professional's group of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. Guests will enjoy food and cocktail samples plus live jazz by Harry Sheppard, performing in the CityCentre plaza.
