Strange Restaurant Fire
Mysterious fire shuts down a Houston restaurant: Owner called, told it's burning right after leaving
Sometimes a fire strikes a popular Houston restaurant that leaves its fans saddened by its departure, as in the recent damage suffered by Spring institution Wunsche Bros. On the other hand, sometimes a fire strikes a restaurant that no one seems to have heard of, as in a blaze Monday night that's shuttered a restaurant with the unlikely name of Getto Burger. (KTRK first reported the fire.)
Defining popularity is tricky, but, in a greater Houston area with more than six million people, it's unusual to find a restaurant like Getto Burger that doesn't have a single review on Yelp.
"Nobody knows nothing about the fire," owner Larry Williams tells CultureMap. "I left there at 11:30 last night. About 10 minutes later, they called and told me the place was burning." Williams says he returned to find police and firefighters on the scene.
Although firefighters saved the building, the restaurant suffered extensive smoke and water damage. Still, Williams says he plans to rebuild.
"As soon as I put some money together, we gonna open," he says.
