The shakiest fashion week in recent memory is in full swing in New York as American designers ponder how to get shoppers back into stores. For the spring 2010 collections, a lot of them are featuring a lot of separates -- jackets, blouses, skirts, pants. So if you don't want to buy an entire outfit, purchase one piece and match it with something already in your closet.
Dallas native Lela Rose showed bright beach colors and showcased skirts with pockets. How practical. (Jenna Bush Hager was in the audience, but the former first daughter was ignored as the paparrazi hubub was all about Law & Order SVU's Mariska Hargity).
Donna Karan's DKNY collection featured jackets of all types -- from boyfriend styles to an unstructured tuxedo jacket to loose-fitting looks dripping in sequins. And none had super-large shoulders.
Diane von Furstenberg's signature wrap was missing, but she featured some nice draped dresses. Other parts of the collection -- tiger prints, macrame and metallics -- were simply puzzling. When DVF came out for her bow, however, she wore a simple navy jacket over a dress that looked like a patterned skirt and contrasting top.
Do we spot a trend?
