Houston Theme Park Fever
Crazy theme park fever? (New) AstroWorld cited as a reason to move to Houston by national real estate group
A real estate blog based in California is showing through images what it believes are the Top 23 reasons to move to Houston — and an extremely popular but very former amusement park is cited as one of the deciding factors.
Shown at No. 16 in a list titled, "23 Photos of Houston that will Make You Want to Move There," there's a shot of a silhouetted Six Flags AstroWorld, mainly the classic shuttle roller coaster, Greezed Lightnin'. A Movoto.com writer captions the shot on the brokerage's opinion blog, ". . . and even to the amusement parks."
"We've recently been studying the Texan lifestyle," Larry Wen, team member at Movoto.com, emailed CultureMap to promote the list, "and today we had our writer put together 23 of the best Houston photos that will remind readers of why they love living there."
The slideshow, accompanied by a string of sentences captioning each image, also includes numerous photos of the Bayou City skyline ("Welcome to Houston!"), inspirational shots of monuments (the Sam Houston statue in Hermann Park and Houston Police Officers' Memorial, for example), sports facilities and Rice University.
"Statuesque City Hall" is also among the selections, as is the Houston Zoo. But AstroWorld? Which closed in 2005?!
Is this wishful thinking centered around the buzz over the under construction new AstroWorld . . . otherwise known as the Grand Texas Sports & Entertainment District? Or just a mistake?
